Governor of Gyeongsangbuk-do Province of the Republic of Korea Vows to Further Strengthen and Expand Cooperation with Cambodia

PHNOM PENH: In a significant move to enhance bilateral relations, Mr. Lee Cheol-Woo, Governor of Gyeongsangbuk-do Province of the Republic of Korea, has expressed his commitment to further strengthen and expand cooperation with Cambodia. During a recent meeting, Governor Lee congratulated the upgrading of Korea-Cambodia relations to a "strategic partnership," underscoring the close ties and cooperation between the two countries.

Governor Lee extended his gratitude to the Royal Government of Cambodia for its excellent cooperation and coordination, particularly highlighting the humanitarian activities conducted by the Gyeongsangbuk-do provincial delegation in Cambodia. He also commended the successful organization of the "Angkor-Kyung You Exhibition" in Siem Reap in 2006.

The Governor pledged to continue enhancing cooperation with relevant Cambodian ministries and institutions. He informed the President that Gyeongsangbuk-do, a large province in the Republic of Korea, is renowned for its rich culture, traditions, and economic potential.

Governor Lee also thanked the Korean government and the people of Gyeongsangbuk-do for their contributions to humanitarian activities in Cambodia, such as providing free medical care. He praised the recent signing of a memorandum of understanding between Gyeongsangbuk-do and Kampong Thom province, which further solidifies their cooperation.

During the discussions, both the President and Governor Lee emphasized the importance of strengthening and expanding cooperation in various fields, including investment, tourism, vocational training, health, and people-to-people connections. They shared successful experiences from the implementation of the New Village Project (Saemaul Undong) in Korea.

Governor Lee outlined the policies and mechanisms of the Royal Government of Cambodia aimed at creating a conducive environment for investment. He encouraged further promotion of Cambodia's economic and investment potential, signaling a bright future for Korea-Cambodia relations.
